After looking through various forums it became clear we were missing the KMDF 1.11 driver.
ConfigMgr: Kernel-Mode Driver Framework 1.11 KB2685811. First time since building system where it has failed an update. This update failed to install (several times), even when done alone. MS updates for 11/14/12 included the Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Win 7. Resolve imaging issues with your drivers and Dell hardware by updating your Kernel Mode Driver Framework to 1.11.
